Sacramental Peparation programs at St. Virgils
St. Virgil´s Parish offers special programs in preparation for First Eucharist, Penance and Baptism for Children, Baptism, First Eucharist, Penance and Confirmation for Adults (RCIA), Confirmation, and Marriage. First Eucharist Preparation for Children The Parish Religious Education Program office coordinates the celebration of First Eucharist for children attending Saint Virgil Academy and for all children attending the Parish Religious Education Program (PREP). Two years of religious education are required for children to celebrate First Eucharist, normally celebrated in Grade Two at Saint Virgil Church. Preparation is both catechetical and liturgical. Children are required to attend the First Eucharist Preparation Day. The Preparation Day provides an experiential approach to deepening a child’s understanding of the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist. At least one parent must attend the Parent Meeting. Families are given their choice of Eucharist dates on a first-come-first-serve basis. All requirements and preparation procedures are contained in the Family Guide that is provided to parents at the parent meeting. Grade 2 Eucharist Enrollment Liturgy January 15 at 9AM Grade 2 Eucharist Retreat January 15 – 10:15AM – 12:30PM Grade 2 Eucharist Banner Workshop February 19 – 10:00AM – Noon Eucharist Readiness Projects and Date Selection Forms due by April 1 Reconciliation Preparation for Children The Parish Religious Education Program office coordinates the celebration of First Reconciliation for children attending Saint Virgil Academy and for all children attending the Parish Religious Education Program (PREP) in Grade 2. Two years of religious education are required for children to celebrate Reconciliation. Preparation includes catechetical instruction and liturgical formation. A Reconciliation Preparation Day allows children to attend small group workshops to explore Christian values. At least one parent must attend the Parent Meeting. All requirements and preparation procedures are contained in the Family Guide which is distributed at the parent meeting. Please call (973)267-1366 for registration information. A calendar will be sent to all parents each year. If you have a child in grade 2 and do not receive a calendar, please call the parish office at 973-267-1366. 2011/2012 Reconciliaton Preparation Grade 2 Reconciliation Parent Meeting (Tracy Center) October 16 9AM October 23 Noon Reconciliation Readiness Projects Due November 13 Grade 2 Reconciliation Retreat November 13– 10:15AM – 12:30PM Grade 2 Reconciliation December 5 - 4PM and 6:30PM (Snow Date: December 12) Preparation for Marriage The Bride and Groom are asked to call the parish office between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. weekdays to begin preparation for the Sacrament of Marriage, normally one year in advance. St. Virgil´s Parish offers a Pre Cana marriage preparation to engaged couples for the Sacrament of Matrimony as required by the Bishops of New Jersey. For more information, contact: Parish Office.
